Quali organismi sono I parameci?
Paramecium (O.F.
What is the phylum of Didinium?
The Didinium is part of the Phylum Ciliophora. View more Ciliophora here. The Didinium belongs to the Phyllum Ciliophora. They are from 80-200µm long. Didinium are fast moving carnivorous protozoans that feed almost exclusively on live Paramecium. When its “nose” (shown at top) strikes a Paramecium it latches on with a threadlike trichocyst.
Is Didinium a ciliate?
Didinium are members of the phylum Ciliophora. It shares many of the common characterstics of other ciliates, such as having two nuclei and being a model organism. However, this is a unique organism as well. Didinium are most famous for their predator-prey relationship with Paramecium, described below.

What type of division does Didinium have?
The genus Didinium, a predator of the protozoan ciliate Paramecium, divides asexually for extended periods. In time of famine it forms a resistant stage (cyst) and undergoes nuclear reorganization.

What is the function of algae in Paramecium?
Algae are present as an endosymbiont and provide food to paramecium by photosynthesis, in turn, the algae get a safe and protective habitat. Paramecium may have intracellular bacteria known as kappa particles.
What is Paramecium Paramecia?
Paramecia are widespread in freshwater, brackish, and marine environments and are often very abundant in stagnant basins and ponds. Because some species are readily cultivated and easily induced to conjugate and divide, it has been widely used in classrooms and laboratories to study biological processes.
What is the function of cytopyge in Paramecium?
The undigested residue is egested through the temporary anal pore (cytopyge). Some of the Paramecium species, e.g. Paramecium bursaria, etc. form a symbiotic relationship with green algae. Algae are present as an endosymbiont and provide food to paramecium by photosynthesis, in turn, the algae get a safe and protective habitat.
What happens when two Paramecium come in contact with each other?
In cytogamy, two paramecia come in contact but there is no nuclear exchange. Paramecium rejuvenates and a new macronucleus is formed. A Paramecia undergoes ageing and dies after 100-200 cycles of fission if they do not undergo conjugation.
